The Read on Joan of Arc (Jehanne of Domrémy)

Outreach Brief · Sample

A sample subject—Joan of Arc (Jehanne of Domrémy) is a historical figure, read from public-domain material. The read below is the engine’s untouched output for the intake shown at the bottom of this page. Nothing was edited. The record here is rich—decades of it—and a living prospect's rarely is. But a living subject offers what no archive can: sources you can question, behavior you can watch land, and a person you can simply ask. A real read starts with what you have and gets sharper with every touchpoint.

Reconstructed from two DISTINCT bases, deliberately at family level: the galvanizing record—armies moved by presence and conviction—carries the Catalyst; the captains' sworn testimony to her tactical judgment carries the Navigator. Sourced from the trial and nullification transcripts, the era's most complete records. Disclosed as reconstruction; a measured reading requires the person.

Where the record diverges

The domains cohere about her and diverge sharply about everyone around her. Her own record is unusually consistent—positioning, deeds and firsthand account all show the same person. The contradiction sits between what the mission delivered and what the institution that received it did: the court she crowned inside five months disbanded the army for a truce she distrusted aloud, let her fight on with dwindling means, and offered no ransom, then nullified the verdict twenty-five years later on the sworn word of the people who had actually been there. The record of the crown contradicts the record of the crowning; hers does not contradict itself.

  • Vocational: coronation at Reims July 1429, mission object achieved; Paris September 1429 failed and the retreat was ordered over her objection; army disbanded for the truce; captured at Compiègne May 1430 with the gate shut behind her.
  • Subjective: 'the court that owed her everything let her fight on with dwindling means... and no ransom was ever offered by the king she had crowned.'
  • Public: the verdict formally nullified twenty-five years later—by the same crown, on the testimony of soldiers and neighbors rather than of the court.

The ruled Drift layer reads this divergence as one architecture past its healthy edge—see the pressure layer below the ladder.

Drift—the pressure layer
A Dive-level layer · shown in full on samples

Read this before the Drift layer. Drift exposure is a prediction about pressure patterns, made from necessarily incomplete information—never a diagnosis, never a conclusion about who this person is, and never a clinical claim of any kind. It names episodes the record demonstrates and the exposure they suggest; everyone exceeds their healthy band under enough strain and stakes, so exposure is a human constant, not a defect. The language describes situations, not character: Overdriven means a capacity ran past choice in an episode—not that the person is broken. The best source of information about any person is that person: their own account outranks any inference here, and one conversation can retire a claim this layer makes. For historical figures this layer is reconstructed from a record the person cannot answer to; hold it accordingly. It must never be the basis for an adverse decision about a person—employment, credit, or otherwise. It exists to inform preparation and support, and it sharpens or retires as new evidence arrives.

Exposure past the healthy band, named only where the record demonstrates episodes—Overdriven or Hijacked on the Activated side, Constricted or Collapsed on the Reserved side. Exposure, not character; episodes, not diagnosis.

Activated-side—the Paris assault pressed wounded and against counsel past the healthy edge; Reserved-side—the abjuration under mortal pressure, then the relapse days later: a contraction entered and then deliberately exited, knowing the price. Caveat: the trial record is enemy-authored; her answers survive it.

A Catalyst—conviction made visible, moving an entire field of people at once

The move

Ask one concrete operational question and attach a real decision you are facing this week. Configurations like this answer requests for action, not requests for reflection.

See the full play →
PortraitShe did not raise morale. She replaced what the camp believed was true.

Everything in the record points one way: a person whose certainty was so complete and so visible that a beaten, unpaid army reorganized itself around her within days, without an order being given. The swearing stopped. The camp cleared. Veterans caught themselves mid-oath—not from fear, from shame in front of someone who plainly meant it. Then she converted that immediately into decisions: assault today, against the captains' staged plans, with her at the front carrying a banner rather than a sword.

The whole arc is two years long. Named object, achieved in five months. Then the turn the record is honest about—Paris failed, the retreat was called over her objection, the court accepted a truce she distrusted out loud, and the king she crowned never offered a ransom. The pattern that broke a siege in nine days had no purchase at all on a political season.

ApproachCome with your stuck team and a decision you owe this week.

Open with your own problem in two sentences, then ask one concrete operational question. This configuration engages with live choices and disengages from open-ended reflection. Ask what she did in the first three days and in what order—the mechanics, not the meaning.

Then ask the second question, the one nobody asks: what it cost to be the conviction rather than merely hold it. Your angle already points there, and it is the part of the record with the most in it for you.

Watch-outReverence closes the door that a real problem opens.

Configurations built on projected conviction tend to lose interest fastest with people who want to admire them or examine them rather than use them. Three weeks of theologians at Poitiers was examination enough; what she wanted was troops. Treating her as an emblem, or leading with a long account of yourself, reads as delay.

The class-level caution for your own purposes is the more useful one: this pattern is superb at collapsing the distance between belief and action and characteristically poor at the slow, unglamorous political work of protecting the position afterward. That is a tendency of the configuration under conditions of institutional dependency, not a prediction about her—but it is the exact tendency you should be watching for in yourself when you take over your next team.

WinStanding comes from acting on what she tells you and reporting back.

Speed and honesty are the currency. Be as plain about your failures as she was about Paris, hand over a decision rather than a question, and follow up with what you actually did—not with thanks. That is the register the whole record rewards.

Opener

A first line, in the right register.

Hi Jehanne—I take over teams that have quit on themselves. They still show up; they just no longer believe the thing can be done. Yours was in that state and it changed within days, and by every account it wasn't an order that changed it. I'd like to ask you two things: what you actually did in the first three days, and what it cost you to be the belief rather than just carry it. I'll come with my own situation laid out, not a list of questions about you.

What would sharpen this read

This read rests on a strong firsthand account and a detailed deed record, both consistent, which is why it reaches signature level for the campaign year. It would sharpen most with the trial transcript itself in her own answers over the five months—the only extended sample of her unmediated reasoning under sustained pressure—and with the nullification testimony of the captains, which would separate what they credited to her judgment from what they credited to her presence.

Two years of public record, one page, and one firsthand testimony—enough to read the campaign year with confidence, not enough to read a life. Confidence is Moderate and the deed record carries most of the weight.

An inference from public signal—the discipline behind it is stated at the end of this read.

A teenager whose certainty functioned as operational force—she changed what an army believed was possible before she changed anything it did, and she paid the whole bill for it herself.

Reads as
Absolute, direct, unembarrassed by her own conviction—impatient with process, physically present at the point of risk, and disarmingly plain in speech.
What moves them
A clear object worth everything, named honestly, with the immediate next step attached. Speed. Being taken at her word rather than examined.
What backfires
Councils that meet to delay, being handled or kept out of the room, hedged half-commitment, and anyone treating her as a symbol to be deployed rather than a person with a plan.
Core driver
Complete the mission she was given, in person, at the front, before the moment closes.

How they orient

Catalyst · Generator
Raises the energy of everyone around her by being visibly, unhedgedly certain—the camp reorganizes itself around her before any order is given.
Anchor · Punctuator
Reliable at forcing the decision—pushing a stalled council or a staged plan across the line into assault, now, today.
Sage · Advisor
The counselling, long-arc register she was least at home in—she could hold the meaning of the mission, but patience with the court that owed her everything was the zone she paid most for.
Orientation Integration

She ignites first, decides second, and counsels third. People catch her conviction, then she converts it immediately into a decision someone has to act on—and the register she never grew into was the slow political one, where the object is to survive the season rather than take the town.

0 of 1 comparisons disagree. Inferred from how far these readings disagree—not a measurement of what it costs them. A consented Stance Read measures that directly.

The read behind the choices

Why It Lands

And a candid call on fit

This configuration answers people who arrive with a real problem and a decision pending. It disengages from admiration, from process, and from anyone who wants a story rather than an instruction.

  • Lead with your own stalled team. The record shows someone who moved immediately toward the actual object and was impatient to the edge of insolence with anything that delayed it—a concrete problem is the fastest way in.
  • Ask for mechanics, not meaning. She told her judges she loved her banner forty times more than her sword and that she had never killed a man—she is precise about what she did and why. Precision invites precision.
  • Naming the cost is the move most likely to earn real access. The abandonment after Paris—the disbanded army, the truce she distrusted aloud, the ransom never offered—is the part of the record everyone skips. Your angle goes straight at it, honestly, without pity.
  • Do not open with reverence or with her voices. Six centuries of argument have made her an emblem; the intake evidence is of a person who wanted to be taken at her word and given troops, not examined. Three weeks at Poitiers was enough examination.
  • Do not ask for a long reflective conversation with no decision in it. Configurations led by this kind of energy convert quickly to action and lose interest in talk that resolves nothing.
Fit read—strong, with one condition

Your angle is nearly ideal: you want conviction as an operational force, which is exactly the domain of the record, and you want the cost, which is the part the record is honest about. The one condition is register—come as a practitioner with a problem this week, not as someone paying respects.

03/03
Beyond the first touch

What Deepens It

Cadence, the hook, and where this goes next
  1. 01Bring one specific decision you are stuck on and hand it over. This configuration engages with a live choice far faster than with a general question.
  2. 02Be equally honest about your own failures—the Paris that didn't work. The record shows someone who wept for the enemy dead and answered trap questions without flinching; half-honesty will read as handling.
  3. 03Follow up with an action taken, not a thank-you. Reporting what you did after the conversation keeps the door open; a nudge with nothing in it does not.
  4. 04Go deeper—a Dive. A fuller read would separate the conviction mechanics from the political blindness, and give you a much sharper map of which parts of this pattern transfer to a demoralized team and which parts are the trap.
The discipline

What this read is, and what it refuses to pretend.

This is an inference, not a measurement. It describes what a configuration class tends toward—never a prediction of what this person will do.

Public signal leans toward the performed self. What people publish is curated, so the read can surface an adjacent “cousin” stance in place of the truer orienting one. A consented A360 measures directly; anything you know firsthand outweighs a bio.

Every call carries its confidence. The chip near the top of this read opens into why it sits at that level—and the single move that would raise it.

The person is always the best source on themselves. This read is a starting point for a real conversation, and the conversation wins.

How this read was made

Built from: Provided biographical summary (public record), Firsthand testimony of a page who served during the campaign year and testified at the nullification, Engagement-by-engagement campaign record, Feb 1429 – May 1431, Trial transcripts, Rouen, as described in the intake, Statement of the absence of formal training—read through separate evidence categories, with agreements and disagreements surfaced rather than averaged.

Confidence: Moderate—the chip near the top of this read opens into why it sits at that level, and the one move that would raise it.

The stance line: inferred from the material above. A consented Stance360 from the subject would make it measured.

Before it rendered: code—not instructions—checked the output. Internal framework codes cannot appear, messages are held to the voice rules, and a score that came back without its reasoning would have been withheld rather than shown.

What was pasted as their public profile

Joan of Arc—Jehanne, of Domrémy; a farm girl who at seventeen talked her way to the Dauphin of France through a hundred fifty miles of enemy territory, was examined for three weeks by the theologians at Poitiers and passed, and was given troops. Nine days after she entered besieged Orléans, the siege of seven months was broken. Within four months of her first command, the Dauphin she had promised to crown was anointed at Reims—the strategic object of her whole mission, achieved at eighteen. Captured a year later, sold to the English, tried for heresy at Rouen in a trial whose complete transcripts survive—her unschooled answers to trap questions are still studied by lawyers: asked whether she was in God's grace, a question where yes was presumption and no was confession, she answered that if she was not, might God put her there, and if she was, might God keep her there. Burned at nineteen. The verdict was formally nullified by a new investigation twenty-five years later, on the testimony of the men who had fought beside her and the neighbors who had raised her. Her public record is two years long and has been argued over for six centuries.

Company / website

The royal army of France, such as it was in 1429—unpaid, superstitious, beaten for a generation—and the household of banner, page, chaplain, and brothers she kept around her.

Training & development

None—she could not read or write and signed with a guided hand. She learned to sew and spin from her mother, testified that in these she feared no woman in Rouen, and heard her voices from about thirteen while working in her father's fields. The military craft she demonstrated—the placement of guns, the timing of assaults, which the captains later testified surprised them professionally—had no visible source of instruction; the record simply shows it appearing, and honest reading has to leave it as the record leaves it.

Work record

The record, engagement by engagement, in the space of two years. The journey itself, February 1429: obtained an escort from a garrison commander who had twice sent her home, crossed enemy country in male clothing—the practical choice she defended to her death—and was granted an audience the court had reason to refuse. The Poitiers examination: three weeks before hostile theologians, passed. Orléans, May 1429: entered the city, pressed the captains into assault against their staged plans, took the Augustins and the Tourelles in successive days—the arrow wound and the same-evening return are in the testimony—and the English abandoned a seven-month siege nine days after her arrival. The Loire campaign, June: Jargeau, Meung, Beaugency, then Patay, where the field army that had beaten France for a decade was destroyed in an afternoon. Reims, July: a coronation march through surrendering towns to anoint the king—mission complete inside five months. Then the record's honest turn: the assault on Paris in September failed, she was wounded, and the retreat was ordered over her objection; the court disbanded the army for a truce she distrusted aloud; she fought on with small means and was captured at Compiègne in May 1430 when the town's gate was shut behind a sortie. A year imprisoned, sold to the English; the trial at Rouen—five months, no counsel, the transcript preserving both the traps and the answers; one abjuration signed under threat of the fire and recanted within days, in men's clothes again, knowing the price; burned May 30, 1431. The crown she made lifted no finger. Twenty-five years later its courts nullified everything, on the sworn word of those who had known her.

Known firsthand

I served as her page through the fighting year, and testified at the nullification, so what follows is what I saw and later swore to. The camp changed within days of her arrival and not by order of any captain: she drove out the women who followed the army, stopped the swearing so thoroughly that the oldest soldiers caught themselves mid-oath, required the men to confess, and they did it—not from fear, from something like shame in front of her certainty. She carried her banner into the assaults herself and told her judges later she loved it forty times more than her sword, and that she had never killed a man. At Orléans she was struck above the breast by an arrow, wept at the pain—she was seventeen—pulled it, and returned to the fight the same evening; the men saw her come back and the assault carried. She wept as hard for the enemy dead as for ours; I watched her hold a wounded English soldier's head while he died. With the captains she was impatient to the edge of insolence—they schemed to leave her out of councils and she turned up anyway, and events kept proving her right about speed and wrong about nothing until Paris. What I must also swear to: at Paris she was wounded and the retreat was sounded over her protest, and after the truce season the court that owed her everything let her fight on with dwindling means until Compiègne, and no ransom was ever offered by the king she had crowned.

The angle

I take over demoralized teams that have stopped believing anything can change. I want to understand what actually moved those soldiers—conviction as an operational force—and what the record says about the cost of being the conviction rather than merely having it.

Now run one on someone real

These sample figures are read from rich records—decades of archive, biography, and deed—and we say so plainly. A real read rarely starts that lucky—but it holds an advantage no archive offers: sources you can question, behavior you can watch land, a person you can simply ask. It starts with what you have and refines from there: no read is assumed right because it was made once; it sharpens as new evidence arrives. That is exactly why the read is split into categories. Evidence arrives unevenly, so each category is read on its own, and the seams between them—where they converge, where they diverge, where the record is simply silent—are where the explanations and syntheses come from. Thin evidence narrows a claim rather than silencing it: defensible conclusions are stated plainly, and provisional ones are marked provisional. More evidence never embarrasses a read; it upgrades it.

Reads are inferences, not measurements—a Wavelength read, not an A360 assessment. Each describes what a configuration class tends toward rather than predicting an individual’s conduct, and is offered to inform engagement—not to define anyone. It is not an employment-selection or screening tool and should not be the sole input to a high-stakes decision. The person is always the best source on themselves. Fit gauges express estimated suitability for one specific objective and shift if the objective changes.
